After Four-Year Process, One of the Most Desirable Vacant Lots in Phoenixville to Be Developed

Phoenixville has approved the development of a new, 550-unit apartment complex just off French Creek, writes Justin Heinze for Phoenixville Patch.

French Creek West will be situated on the 37-acre parcel of land below High Street and Gay Street. The site was previously home to a large portion of the Phoenix Iron and Steel industrial complex.

Borough Council voted 5-1 to allow the project to get started. This brought an end to the four-year process between the developer and the Planning Commission to address one of the most desirable vacant lots in the borough.

“People are dying to move into our community,” said Councilwoman Beth Burckley. “I’ve been able to work alongside business owners, and nonprofits, and the one thing that I see that we as a council needed to be careful of is this growth. It’s scary, but I think we’ve done it very responsibly.”

The development will consist of 164 townhouses and 146 stacked townhouses, as well as 240 apartments. In addition to the residential units, the plan calls for a massive parking development with 1,393 designated spaces to include lots, driveways, building garages, and detached garages. There will also be a public parking lot.
