David’s Bridal emerges from restructuring

In less time than it takes to make a custom bridal gown, David’s Bridal, with headquarters in Conshohocken, has emerged from bankruptcy.

Unless you buy a ready-to-wear dress or a sample gown, wedding dresses are custom-made. And once your dress arrives, it’s going to have to be altered — usually several times — until it fits you perfectly, according to theknot.com. That said, many companies can turn a dress around more quickly if need be. But if you have less than six months, start shopping right away and try to be flexible about your dress choice.

Perhaps easing what are already incredible apprehensions of thousands of brides, David’s Bridal, America’s largest wedding gown retailer emerged from bankruptcy on Friday, just weeks after it first sought protection from creditors, writes Katherine Doherty for bloomberg.com.

David’s Bridal Inc. shrunk its debt load by about $450 million and is now owned by its lenders, including Oaktree Capital Group. The company filed for bankruptcy in November and wanted to exit bankruptcy quickly to avoid scaring off brides.

Less than two months later they have emerged from the restructuring.
