For the uninitiated, a Detroit-style pie is a square pizza with a thick and crunchy focaccia-style crust with toppings and cheese baked into it and the sauce on top, preventing saturation of the crust and maintaining its signature crunchiness. This pie has a crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside texture that sets it apart from your standard Chicago or New York-style pizzas.
