It won’t be just a factory — not after Dec. 1.

For the first time in its 20 years of business, Crazy Aaron’s, which manufactures and sells its branded Thinking Putty, is opening a small retail space that could eventually turn into something on a much larger scale.

The space, just 600 square feet, will sit inside of the company’s new headquarters and manufacturing facility at 700 E. Main St. in Norristown and will be called the Shop at Puttyworld. It is scheduled to open Dec. 1.  “It’s not super big, but it’s our toe in the water,” said Aaron Muderick, founder and CEO of Crazy Aaron’s., writes Natalie Kostelni in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The opportunity to create a retail presence presented itself once the company got settled into its new building, a 100,000-square-foot former brick knitting mill that dates back to 1895. The structure more recently served as cold storage for Gretz Beverage before Crazy Aaron’s paid $5.25 million for it in 2017.

The company spent the next year renovating it for its corporate offices and uses the majority of the space to manufacture its Thinking Putty products. Crazy Aaron’s moved into it this past July.  A retail store was a natural progression for Crazy’s Aaron’s.

Muderick was smitten with the Norristown building, its location in an urban environment, access to transit and the room it gave the company to consolidate and grow.  It also does a lot of work involving the disabled and the new space also gives it more room for those who are disabled to work alongside the company’s employees.
