Four Montgomery County pharmacies will now vaccinate children under five years old for COVID-19.

Only a third of pharmacies in the Phila. region currently carry COVID-19 vaccines for children under five years old. Of those, five vaccinators are in Montgomery County. Jason Laughlin, The Philadelphia Inquirer, rolled up his sleeves to bring the details of who’s giving shots where.

Since federal regulations prevent children younger than three from being vaccinated at pharmacies, that leaves only three- and four-year-olds eligible to get their shots from a neighborhood drug store. This population slice is therefore too small for many businesses to stock the properly scaled doses for them. As a result, the number of sites where parents can get their young kids vaccinated in the suburbs is drastically reduced.

Some, however, have decided to stay involved with the latest demographic to become COVID-19 vaccine eligible.

In Montgomery County, these include:

  • Skippack Pharmacy: 4118 Skippack Pike, Schwenksville
  • Eric’s Rx Shoppe: 810 E. Welsh Road, Horsham
  • Horsham Square Pharmacy: 575 Horsham Road
  • Horsham Pharmacy: 316 Horsham Road
  • LaCon’s Pharmacy, 1336 Powell Street, Norristown

“People actually thought I was crazy that I opted in to do under five,” said Mayank Amin, owner of Skippack Pharmacy. “At this point, we’ve vaccinated 85,000 people in our county. I was not going to leave this last group hanging.”
