Tommy John, the online men’s underwear company, is about to open its first brick and mortar retail store in King of Prussia Mall, writes Suzette Parmley for Philly.com.

Tommy John was created by Thomas John Patterson, after he struggled to find an undershirt that stayed clean, remained tucked in, and was comfortable to wear.

Then nine years ago he discovered a fabric that he liked, and asked his dry cleaner to produce an undershirt made using his own longer tapered design. He was so pleased with the result that asked for another fifteen to gift to family and friends, all of whom loved it. They soon requested more and with that Tommy John was born.

Now, the brand is available in well-known retail stores like Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s as well as in men’s shops, tennis clubs, and golf pro shops.

The decision to open a dedicated brick-and-mortar store is a part of the recent trend that is bringing men’s underwear into boutique shops across the country.

“Over the last few years it has moved from an afterthought to more of a considered purchase,” said Patterson. “That’s why we are taking this next step.”
