Sean McDermott, the new head coach of the Buffalo Bills, made it clear he was headed for success during his early years in Lansdale, writes Chris Brown for Buffalo Bills News.

McDermott and his brother Tim grew up in a strict and loving family that focused on core values. According to McDermott this helped prepare him for his position as head coach.

Growing up, McDermott played football, baseball and joined the wrestling team with his brother. Any disagreements between the two were usually solved through an impromptu wrestling match.

Sean soon eclipsed his brother by going on to win a couple of national wrestling prep championships at La Salle High School in Wyndmoor. However his heart was always in football, and he gave up several wrestling scholarships to join the football team at William & Mary.

He first ventured into coaching when he was offered a graduate assistant’s position by his college coach Jimmye Laycock. This has led to his very successful coaching career culminating with leading the Buffalo Bills.

“I just always want to be the best,” said McDermott. “It’s something that I’ve always had in me.”
