“We are proud to honor General Pace with this award,” said Ted Digges, Executive Director of The American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs and chair of the selection committee. “He perfectly embodies what this award celebrates: sacrifice, success, and service. He is an inspiration for so many, especially the veterans in our scholarship program pursuing success in their second careers.”

General Pace was sworn in as 16th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Sept. 30, 2005. In this capacity, he served as the principal military advisor to the President, the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council.

In June 2008, General Pace was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor a President can bestow.
