King of Prussia’s Philadelphia Gear Awarded $98M Pentagon Contract

King of Prussia’s Philadelphia Gear has been awarded a Pentagon contract to build three MRGs for the Arleigh Burke class of guided missile destroyers.

King of Prussia’s Philadelphia Gear has been awarded a $98 million Pentagon contract to build three sets of for the DDG 51 class of guided missile destroyers by May 2020, according to a staff report from Defense World.

The DDG 51 is a multi-mission surface combat ship with 64 in active service and another thirteen under construction. Each Arleigh Burke class destroyer needs two sets of gears, one for each propulsion shaft, as they transmit power from the ship’s gas turbines to turn the shaft.
