Montgomery County is home to a trio of Fortune 500 companies: Universal Health Services, UGI, and Toll Brothers.

King of Prussia-based UHS, led by Chairman and CEO Alan B. Miller, moved up 14 spots from its prior-year ranking, checking in at No. 276 after having generated $10.5 billion in revenues during the 2016 fiscal year.

Based in Valley Forge, UGI, a natural gas and electric utility led by CEO John L. Walsh, placed 457th with revenues of $5.6 billion.

And Toll Brothers, the Horsham-based luxury homebuilder guided by CEO Douglas C. Yearley Jr., narrowly made the list – for the fifth time – at No. 497. Its revenues for 2016 were $5.1 billion.

In total, Fortune 500 companies represent two-thirds of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product with $12 trillion in revenues, $890 billion in profits, $19 trillion in market value, and employ 28.2 million people worldwide.

To be considered for the Fortune 500, companies must file financial statements with a government agency, be incorporated inside the U.S., and must also report financial statements for a minimum of three-quarters of the fiscal year.
