County Awards Montco 2040 Implementation Grants to 13 Municipalities

The grants, including a $200,000 grant to support Schwenksville's Main Street Pedestrian Plaza project, continue an exciting program aimed at implementing the county comprehensive plan, Montco 2040: A Shared Vision.

The Montgomery County Commissioners have announced that 13 projects in the county will receive Montco 2040 Implementation Grants.

The new grants continue an exciting program aimed at implementing the county comprehensive plan, Montco 2040: A Shared Vision.

The program is intended to assist municipalities in making targeted physical improvements that achieve real progress toward the goals of the plan and the plan’s themes of Connected Communities, Sustainable Places, and Vibrant Economy.

The grants account for $1,040,000 across 13 municipalities. The county received 21 applications, totaling $2.3 million in requests, from municipalities.

Projects were evaluated in terms of impact, county, and local planning consistency, project readiness, and funding attributes by a committee made up of planning commission board members and interdepartmental county staff.

“Montgomery County is focused on continuing to build on our success in making the county the best place to live, work, play, and open a business,” said Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.

“We achieve these goals by partnering with our local municipalities to create connected communities, sustainable places, and a vibrant economy. These grants represent diverse projects that will improve and enhance the high quality of life in the county.”

The 13 projects that received grants in 2017, with the dollar amount in parentheses, are:

  • Cheltenham – Elkins Park Wayfinding Signage Project ($59,778)
  • Horsham – Dresher Road Sidewalks at the Pennsylvania Business Campus Project ($93,320)
  • Jenkintown – Pedestrian and Gateway Enhancements Project ($73,902)
  • Lansdale – Whites Road Park Streambank Improvements Project ($70,000)
  • Lower Gwynedd – Carriages Trail Connection Project ($40,000)
  • Pottstown – King Street Pedestrian Crossing and Bicycle Project ($80,000)
  • Schwenksville – Main Street Pedestrian Plaza Project ($200,000)
  • Upper Dublin – Fort Washington Cross County Trail and Road Diet Project ($100,000)
  • Upper Gwynedd – Lighting at Pickleball Courts Project ($27,000)
  • Upper Salford – Schirk-Hutt and Buckman Trail Project ($45,000)
  • West Norriton – Betzwood Park Trailhead Project ($80,000)
  • Whitpain – Township Line and Walton Road Pedestrian Crossing Project ($108,000)
  • Worcester – Defford Road Park and Connection to Center Point Shoppes Project ($63,000)
