Helping the homeless continues to be the focus of IKEA’s product donation program to the American Red Cross which is now in its third year.

“Through our partnership with the American Red Cross, we are hoping to extend a hand of help to the homeless families and individuals in our local communities without access to basic necessities,” said Evamay Lawson, Head of IKEA US Community Affairs.

From May 15 to May 31, IKEA U.S. will donate 4,500 “Care Kits for the Homeless” across its 45 local markets nationwide. The kits consist of a backpack filled with care items including a poncho, washcloths, towels along with food and water.

“We are grateful for the IKEA partnership and their focus on helping homeless and vulnerable populations,” said Barb Larkin, American Red Cross’s Senior Director of Corporate Relationships. ”These kits will provide comfort to thousands of people.”

IKEA has also signed Pepper Construction as contractors to build its new Milwaukee-area store in Oak Creek to strengthen its presence in the Midwestern U.S.

The upcoming 291,000-square-foot store will feature around 10,000 exclusively designed items and offer customers 50 different room displays for inspiration along with three model home interiors. The store will also feature a supervised children’s play area alongside the furniture giant’s signature restaurant that offers Swedish specialties and classic American dishes.

“This Milwaukee-area store will provide a more convenient IKEA shopping experience for current and potential customers throughout Wisconsin, complementing our growing Midwestern U.S. presence,” said IKEA U.S. president, Lars Petersson.
