The Keystone Press Awards contest sponsored by the PA NewsMedia Association saw Pottstown’s The Mercury come out on top with seven statewide awards.

Pottstown’s The Mercury won seven statewide awards in an annual Keystone Press Awards contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association, according to a staff report from The Mercury.

Six writers and editors were recognized, including former editor Nancy March, who retired last year. March took the top award in the Editorial category as well as second place for Headlines. The editorial award highlighted several of her pieces including her piece praising Governor Wolf’s efforts on banning gifts.

First and second places for Graphic/Photo Illustration went to Assistant Sports Editor, Sam Stewart, for his coverage of the high school football season. Reporter Evan Brandt received first place in News Features for his story and video on the 75th anniversary of the Pine Forge Academy.

Business Editor Donna Rovins got an honorable mention in the Business/Consumer Story category, while Sports Editor Austin Hertzog also shared an honorable mention with sportswriter Thomas Nash for Sports Event Coverage.

“I am always so proud of the passion and professionalism that The Mercury staff brings to their job, which many of them seem to view as more of a calling,” said Edward Condra, regional publisher for the Digital First Media Philly Cluster.
