The impression of stepping back in time is the first feeling for visitors to the Richard Wall House Museum in Elkins Park which is set on land granted by William Penn himself, writes Meisha Johnson for CBS Philly.

“This house is so historic,” explained Jack Washington of the Cheltenham Township Historical Society. “It goes back to 1682 and the first settlers in Cheltenham Township.”

The two century old house was acquired by the township in the 1930s. In 1993 it was turned into a museum that showcases the life of early Pennsylvania.

Each room has period architecture and an accompanying story. In addition, the home contains items that are indigenous to Cheltenham Township and a library with books dating back to the Civil War

One of the most original parts of the house is the colonial kitchen. Another room is decorated in 1920’s finery, while one commemorates the country’s military history from the Revolutionary War to Vietnam.

The museum located at 1 Wall Park Drive in Elkins Park is open to the public on the fourth Sunday of every month, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Private tours are also available by appointment.
