From Chesco: Wawa Sign Brings Internet Fame to Flyers Fan

By

Kennett Square’s Alec Lessner gained Internet fame with the “WAWA IS BETTER THAN SHEETZ” sign he held at a recent Flyers game.

Kennett Square’s Alec Lessner has quickly become a social media sensation after the sign he was holding proclaiming that “WAWA IS BETTER THAN SHEETZ” during a game between the Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins elevated the rivalry to new heights, writes Josh Ellis for CSN Philly.

The photo taken before the game was liked more than 133,000 times on Facebook, and was also shared close to 30,000 times across different social media platforms.

The cheeky sign was Lessner’s attempt to lighten the continuously tense political atmosphere.

“I thought it would be good to make a humorous sign that would inspire a more lighthearted debate,” Lessner said.

The attempt seems to have worked, as the majority of reaction he has received for supporting the Delaware County-based chain has been positive.

“One of the most common reactions Penguins fans had was, ‘I don’t like your team, but your sign isn’t wrong!’”

When asked what the top thing was that makes Wawa better than Sheetz, Lessner pointed to the store’s soft pretzels.

“I rarely make a Wawa run that doesn’t include the purchase of a pair,” he said.
