Charisse McGill, French Toast Bites creator, entrepreneur, and champion of farmers’ markets, passed away last week at the age of 42, writes Dan Sokil for Main Line Media News.

McGill first made a name for herself as the manager of the Lansdale Farmers’ Market from 2013 through 2018. While there she launched her Lokal Artisan Foods which started as a lemonade stand.

After leaving the market, she had success selling her French Toast Bites under the Lokal Artisan Foods brand throughout the Philadelphia region. She also created her own beer to go with the bites. In 2022, she also debuted a gelato.

Just last year, McGill was honored by the Philadelphia 76ers as part of the team’s annual 76ers Buy Black Program.

Last July, she was named the executive director of the national nonprofit Farmers Market Coalition.

Lokal Artisan said on Instagram, that McGill “was an inspiration to our immediate and French Toast Bites families and all her friends — and to her fans, students, partners and colleagues in Philadelphia and across America.”

The company added that all venues will remain open, and partnerships will continue in her memory.
