The upcoming Legoland Discovery Center in Plymouth Meeting will be opening its doors on April 6, possibly bringing an influx of tourists attracted by the world famous brand, writes Kenneth Hilario for Philadelphia Business Journal.
The announcement was made by Mayor Jim Kenney as he unveiled the first completed Lego city landmark replica at Miniland Philadelphia area.
The nine-foot model of One Liberty Place was created using over 17,000 Lego bricks.
The Plymouth Meeting Legoland will be the ninth to open in the United States, and only the 17th worldwide.
The recent rise in Lego’s popularity could spell good news for local tourism, according to Wesley S. Roehl, professor of tourism management at Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism & Hospitality Management.
“With a Legoland Discovery Center opening in the Philadelphia area, we might expect that regional tourism will benefit from being associated with such a well-known brand, he stated.
