Fitness Club Taking Over Former Macy’s Building in Ardmore’s Suburban Square

Life Time Fitness will take up nearly 79,000 square feet of the almost 100,000-square-foot Macy’s building in Ardmore.

Ardmore is about to become even healthier, as the former Macy’s building in Suburban Square is being taken over by Life Time Fitness, the upscale health-club operator which has over 120 locations nationwide, writes Jacob Adelman for Philly.com.

Macy’s has been closing a number of its brick-and-mortar stores due to disappointing sales with the Ardmore location put on the chopping block in March last year.

Now it is part of a $70 million renovation plan that will prepare the building for the fitness club’s arrival among other improvements.

Life Time Fitness, which is scheduled to open in October, will take up nearly 79,000 square feet of the almost 100,000-square-foot Macy’s building by the mall’s center.

According to Bahram Akradi, Life Time Fitness’ founder and CEO, his clubs match the amenities of a high-end wellness resort.

They offer clients not only classes and exercise studios, but also lavish spa facilities and upscale cafes featuring healthy menus.

The company is also planning to open two more clubs in Montgomery County this year, one in King of Prussia and another in Fort Washington.

“We love the immediate community,” said Akradi. “That’s exactly the customer we want to serve.”
