Thomas Miller and his wife Cathie – who have been running Hatfield’s Thomas Miller & Co. for nearly four decades – are planning to retire and leave the family business in the capable hands of their son, Thomas Miller Jr., writes Amanda Cregan for The Associated Press.

The company, founded by Miller in 1975, gives its customers commercial-grade equipment at no cost in exchange for them ordering all of their coffee products through Thomas Miller & Co.

“We cater to whatever the client wants,” said Cathie Miller. “Some clients don’t want us to touch anything and some want white-glove service.”

The Millers believe that it is their attention to customer service that has made the difference in keeping and growing their client base. The owners even go the extra mile by forwarding night and weekend service calls to their private cell phones.

“It’s been so much a part of our lives,” said Thomas Miller. “I think we’re just trying to figure out how we can start stepping away.”
