Hundreds of cyclists are getting ready to welcome back one of the biggest sporting events in the borough, the Pottstown Bike Race, writes Eric Devlin for The Pottstown Mercury.

The event is sanctioned by USA Cycling as part of Pennsylvania’s Best All-Around Rider competition. More than 300 cyclists are expected to compete in the nearly-mile-long course on July 10, from noon to 8 PM.

The two women’s and six men’s races will start at High Street and Charlotte Street, turn onto North Hanover Street, then Walnut Street, followed by North Evans Street, leading back to the start. There will also be a free race for kids.

Event organizer Dawn Gulick said that the popular race, which has been absent from Pottstown’s streets for years, should draw a big crowd of supporters to cheer the cyclists on.

There will also be a beer garden from Sly Fox Brewing Company in the former Hippodrome Theatre parking lot, where spectators can relax and watch the races.
