As temperatures climb across the region, PECO employees and community partners recently came together in Point Breeze with a simple goal: help neighbors stay safe, comfortable, and connected to the resources they need during summer’s hottest days.
At the Point Breeze Community Market, PECO distributed free electric fans to seniors and families in need as part of its annual Summer Fan Distribution Program, an initiative that has helped thousands of vulnerable customers across southeastern Pennsylvania prepare for extreme heat over the past two decades.
The event was the latest stop in a weeklong series of fan distributions held throughout PECO’s service territory, including Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and York counties.
Along with receiving free fans, attendees had the opportunity to speak directly with PECO representatives about energy assistance grants, payment programs, bill support, and practical ways to reduce energy use while keeping their homes cool.
For more than 20 years, PECO has partnered with local organizations to distribute approximately 600 fans annually to customers who are most vulnerable to extreme heat. Supported by employee volunteers and community partners, the program has become a summertime tradition that combines immediate assistance with long-term customer support.
This year’s distribution continued that mission by helping connect residents with resources that can make a meaningful difference beyond a single day.
PECO representatives shared information about financial assistance programs, including the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), customer grants, flexible payment options, and other programs designed to help customers better manage energy costs during periods of high demand.
The outreach comes at a time when energy affordability remains a growing concern for many households. As electricity demand continues to increase nationwide, PECO has expanded its efforts to ensure customers are aware of the assistance available to them.
In 2025 alone, PECO helped more than 135,000 customers receive more than $200 million in energy assistance through LIHEAP grants and other programs that do not require repayment.
Beyond delivering safe and reliable electricity, PECO’s Summer Fan Distribution Program illustrates the company’s commitment to helping customers navigate the challenges of extreme summer heat. The initiative aligns with the Exelon Promise, which focuses on building stronger, more resilient communities by expanding access to essential resources and improving affordability for customers.
As another summer gets underway, PECO continues to demonstrate that keeping customers comfortable means more than keeping the lights on.
It means ensuring neighbors have the tools, resources, and assistance they need to weather the season safely.
