Montco is emerging as a focal point in major expansion plans from regional healthcare giants like Jefferson Health and Penn Medicine, writes John George for The Philadelphia Business Journal.
Both systems are looking to grow their presence with new facilities and upgraded care centers across the Philadelphia area.
Jefferson Health has identified Montgomery County as a priority market as it explores more than $1 billion in potential investments. That includes expanding capacity at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital and continuing upgrades at Abington Jefferson Hospital.
The strategy reflects a broader push to bring care closer to where people live through smaller community hospitals and outpatient centers.
Meanwhile, Penn Medicine already has a major project underway in the county. A $282 million ambulatory care center is under construction in Montgomery Township. The facility is expected to open in 2027 and will offer services ranging from cancer care to diagnostics. This is part of a larger vision to expand access while reducing travel time for patients.
Across the region, systems are adapting to shifting healthcare demands by investing in outpatient care and localized services. Even Temple Health has expanded its footprint with satellite cancer care sites in Montgomery County.
