A long-standing pedestrian safety concern in Lower Providence Township is set to be addressed thanks to a new $150,000 county grant, writes Rachel Ravina for The Reporter.
Township officials recently announced plans to construct a 450-foot sidewalk along Pawlings Road, connecting Audubon Road to Lantern Lane. The Montco 2040 Implementation Grant Program funded the project to improve access for more than 300 residents to nearby parks, trails, and community spaces.
The effort stems from a resident-led push for safer walkability. Narrow roadways and heavy traffic have made it difficult for families, cyclists, and pedestrians to navigate the area.
Despite being located within a mile of major outdoor destinations such as Evansburg State Park and the Audubon Loop Trail, many residents have been forced to rely on cars due to safety concerns. Township leaders say the new sidewalk will help bridge that gap, creating a safer and more connected community.
County officials highlighted the project as a strong example of collaboration between residents and local government. In addition to the sidewalk, improvements to the nearby traffic signal are also planned, with completion expected by early 2027.
The Montco 2040 program has funded similar projects across the county over the past decade. The program focuses on infrastructure that enhances the quality of life and community connectivity.
