As it celebrates its centennial, the Bryn Mawr Film Institute appointed Scott Fisher as its third executive director, following Sam Scott and founder Juliet Goodfriend, writes Ed Williams for the Main Line Today.
Fisher has served on over 20 nonprofit boards in various regions over the years, developing a balance of risk-taking and strong fiscal responsibility.
After moving to Bryn Mawr in 2000, he marked his first night in the area by going to a movie at what was then known as the Bryn Mawr Theater.
“We liked it so much, we did it again the next night,” said Fisher.
Now leading the popular institution, he is preparing a new strategic plan focused on exceptional film experiences with social and interactive elements, collaboration with civic, business, and municipal leaders to position the area as an arts and culture destination, and “celebrating, modernizing, and beautifying our historic Seville Theatre while honoring its significance,” he added.
He hopes the community will continue supporting the institute not only through ticket sales, which cover 40 percent of the operating budget, but also through memberships, educational programs, sponsorships, space rentals, and other contributions.
