Bala Cynwyd Man Creates Plague-Inspired Cocktails

A Bala Cynwyd man turned his least favorite holiday into inspiration for a creative Passover cocktail book and tradition.

What was once his least favorite holiday has become a creative passion project for a Bala Cynwyd resident, writes Denali Sagner for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

David Kedson has transformed Passover into a lively tradition centered around his self-published book, The Ten Plagues of Cocktails. The longtime Lower Merion resident hosts Seder gatherings featuring drinks inspired by the biblical plagues.

Kedson, a hobbyist bartender, first had the idea while on a family trip, where a passing comment sparked the concept of turning the Ten Plagues into themed cocktails. The result is a collection of 21 recipes blending classic drinks with original creations.

Each year, Kedson prepares small samples of the cocktails for guests, offering a playful twist while keeping the tradition manageable. The drinks range from familiar favorites to inventive options tied to each plague.

While not all recipes meet strict kosher standards, Kedson includes guidance for substitutions and encourages flexibility depending on observance.

For Kedson, the goal is simple: bring energy and connection to a holiday he once dreaded, while creating a memorable experience for family and friends.
