Conshohocken’s Cencora is continuing its push into specialty health care with a $1.1 billion deal to acquire the retina business of EyeSouth Partners, writes John George for The Philadelphia Business Journal.
The transaction will fold EyeSouth’s retina specialists into Cencora’s subsidiary, Retina Consultants of America. Cencora acquired RCA in 2025 as part of its broader strategy to expand beyond traditional pharmaceutical distribution.
Once the deal closes after the company’s fiscal year ends in September, the combined network will further strengthen Cencora’s footprint in ophthalmology services.
EyeSouth Partners was founded in 2015 and operates a large physician network spanning more than 400 doctors across 14 states. It has hundreds of care locations and surgery centers.
Its retina specialists will join RCA’s existing network, which already includes nearly 300 specialists handling millions of patient visits annually.
The move is the latest in a series of major investments by the Montgomery County-based company. In recent months, Cencora has also expanded into oncology services through its multibillion-dollar investment in OneOncology, signaling a broader shift toward higher-margin, specialty care offerings.
Cencora, which generated more than $320 billion in revenue last year, said the EyeSouth deal is expected to provide a modest boost to earnings within its first year.
