Bala Cynwyd’s Bonnie Rosen Builds Lasting Legacy at Temple

Bala Cynwyd native Bonnie Rosen marks 20 years leading Temple lacrosse, building a Hall of Fame career rooted in mentorship and success

From Bala Cynwyd to the national stage, Bonnie Rosen has built a legacy that continues to shape women’s lacrosse across the region, writes Colin Schofield for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The longtime Temple University head coach recently added another memorable moment to her career when two trumpeter swans unexpectedly landed on the practice field just days before the season opener.

One lingered long enough to require help from a biology professor and an animal rescuer. “It’s never a dull moment, and there’s always something new,” Rosen joked.

Now in her 20th season at Temple, the Bala Cynwyd native has racked up more than 230 career wins, multiple conference tournament appearances, and NCAA Tournament berths.

She’s also earned induction into both the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame.

A standout at Harriton High School and later the University of Virginia, Rosen didn’t initially envision a coaching career. But a chance opportunity led her into the profession, where she quickly found her calling.

After launching UConn’s program and returning home to be closer to family, Rosen took over at Temple in 2007 and has since built a consistent contender.

Two decades in, the Montco native remains driven by one philosophy: coach people, not just the game.
