Theater Unspeakable and Let’s Make History Productions will host a special performance of the critically-acclaimed theater show The American Revolution on Sunday, Apr. 12, at Ursinus College’s historic Bomberger Hall in Collegeville.
This free performance celebrates the 250th anniversary of the events of the American Revolution and invites audiences of all ages to experience a humorous, imaginative retelling of the nation’s founding.
Originally debuting for Philadelphia audiences in 2017 during a run at the Arden Theatre Company, The American Revolution offers a family-friendly retelling of the country’s founding using tongue-in-cheek humor, inventive staging, and the physical theater style that has become a signature of Theater Unspeakable.
The full-length production features seven actors performing dozens of characters while using their bodies, voices, and pantomime to recreate the American fight for independence — from Lexington to Yorktown — on a small, raised stage measuring just three by seven feet.
“We are excited to bring the full-length version of The American Revolution to the historic and beautiful Bomberger Hall on the campus of Ursinus College,” said Director Marc Frost. “This year’s performance is especially meaningful as we mark the 250th anniversary of the events of the American Revolution. We’re partnering with students on campus and members of the local community to make this a special visit, celebrating the history that shaped our nation in a creative and engaging way.”
“Through our APEX Hub initiative, we are proud to bring Marc Frost to Ursinus College to engage directly with our arts management and administration students,” says Louis Rieger, Ursinus College adjunct professor. “His work with Theater Unspeakable, as managing artistic director, highlights the intersection of creative experimentation, collaboration, strategic thinking, and organizational leadership. Marc offers a dynamic look at how bold artistic ideas become a thriving, nationally touring arts organization.”
“At the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board, our Arts Montco initiative is all about celebrating the vibrant creative experiences that define Montgomery County,” stated Rachel Riley, VP of Marketing and Communication. “In this milestone year marking America’s 250th birthday, this performance is a perfect example of how art and history come together — bringing our nation’s story to life in a way that is engaging, accessible, and meaningful for all generations.”
Following the performance, audiences are invited to participate in a Q&A with the cast and creative team, as well as a free community workshop exploring the physical theater techniques used in the show.
Part of this production is being funded by an America250 PA grant.
The American Revolution is directed by Marc Frost and features actors Kiersten Adams, Nathan Alford-Tate, Linnea Bond, Liam Forest, Alyse James, Elena Nahrmann, and Midge Nease.
