Former Willow Grove Naval Air Station Inches Closer Toward Mixed-Use Vision

Horsham will hold a zoning hearing for the Willow Grove Naval Air Station, advancing plans for a mixed-use hub with housing, parks, and offices.

The next transformation of the former Willow Grove Naval Air Station will start with next Wednesday’s hearing, writes Dino Ciliberti for the Patch.

The hearing will start the process of rezoning the 862-acre Horsham site to match the federally approved redevelopment plan, which envisions a vibrant mix of town centers, office parks, recreation spaces, and housing.

Currently, the property remains zoned for industrial use, which is incompatible with plans.

According to township manager Bill Walker, the zoning meeting is about being proactive and being prepared for whatever may come.

The base closed in 2011 and Horsham has since been laying the groundwork for redevelopment, upgrading water, sewer, and traffic systems.

Walked emphasized that no construction, land transfers, or development approvals are occurring at this time. The goal is to position Horsham for success and continue demonstrating good faith in ongoing negotiations with the U.S. Navy.
