Di Bruno Bros.’ closure is reshaping the future of Suburban Square’s Ardmore Farmers Market, where the Italian-goods purveyor had long been the dominant tenant, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Before its closure, Di Bruno’s Ardmore location occupied over half of the market’s stalls. But instead of seeking a single large operator to replace it, the market chose to reconfigure the space and create multiple units for smaller food tenants, according to Douglas Green, a principal at MSC Retail, which handles leasing for Kimco Realty Corp., the Suburban Square owner.
“Di Bruno’s just kind of got too big,” said Green. “It limited cuisine diversity and pushed them into specialty items and cuisines that weren’t really their core business.”
Currently, four spaces are available, ranging from 600 to 800 square feet, some of which can be divided. Current vendors, such as Stoltzfus Meats, Ardmore Produce, Ardmore Seafood, Malvern Buttery, Sushi Sei, Tabouli, and the Ultimate Bake Shoppe, will remain, and more potential locations have been identified around dining areas.
MSC Retail is already discussing with potential tenants, including Philadelphia chefs and restaurant groups looking to expand into the suburbs.
