Matt Ryan, a native of Exton and Penn Charter graduate, has been appointed as the inaugural president of football for the Atlanta Falcons, according to a staff report from The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The team’s former longtime quarterback will lead the search for a new coach and a general manager, where both positions will report directly to Ryan. By taking this newly established role, he will leave CBS after spending time as an NFL analyst.
Arthur Blank, owner of the Falcons, said the team conducted just two days of interviews before selecting him.
“Arthur gave me the chance of a lifetime almost twenty years ago, and he’s done it again today,” said Ryan. “While I appreciate the time I had with the Colts and with CBS, I’ve always been a Falcon. It feels great to be home.”
Ryan was the Falcons’ starting quarterback from 2008 to 2021. He got named the 2016 NFL MVP after guiding the team to the Super Bowl and continues to hold most of the team’s major passing records, including yards and touchdown passes.
After leaving Atlanta, he then played one season with the Indianapolis Colts before retiring.
