Anno Artem Celebrates One Year Bucking Traditional Gallery Trends

A Pottstown art gallery marks its first anniversary with bold exhibitions, local artists, and immersive experiences above a historic station.

Tucked above an old railroad station in Pottstown, Anno Artem quietly celebrated its first anniversary, proving that creativity doesn’t need a flashy storefront to thrive, writes Evan Brandt for Daily Local News.

Anno Artem recently marked one year in business. Founder Anthony Nowack and his wife, Danielle Kangas, have built a gallery focused on modern, experimental work by local artists.

Unlike more traditional galleries, Anno Artem leans into contemporary and immersive exhibitions. Recent shows have featured artists working in layered drawing, abstract painting, and mixed media, with pieces that blur the lines between sculpture, painting, and installation. The gallery has also hosted themed exhibitions exploring ideas like concealment, emotion, and memory.

Some shows go beyond visual art entirely. Installations have transformed the space with sound, scent, and lighting, while events like sound baths invite visitors to slow down and experience art in a more meditative way.

Nowack says the gallery’s first year has exceeded expectations, thanks in large part to community support and interest in something different. With a growing roster of exhibitions and events planned, Anno Artem is looking ahead to its second year as a creative hub in Pottstown.
