A public service charter school being proposed at the former Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne was presented to the community Dec. 4 at Radnor Memorial Library, writes Madeleine Wright for CBS News Philadelphia.
The Valley Forge Public Service Academy Charter School has been proposed at the Military Academy, which is closing.
It would enroll 450 students in grades 6-12, training for careers in policing, firefighting, EMS, and local government. The school is positioning itself as an alternative for students who may not want to go to college.
“I think the on-the-job readiness that the trade school will provide for the students is a completely different academic track than what the local high school or elementary schools offer,” said Steve Shreiner, CEO of Valley Forge Public Service Academy Charter School.
Students from Radnor Township, Philadelphia, Tredyffrin, and surrounding areas could attend.
The co-founders of the charter school submitted a 1,000-page application with 40 exhibits, hoping to join the Radnor Township School District.
The charter school will present its five-year financial projections to the school district at a hearing on the charter school’s application later this month. Radnor would vote on the application early next year.
