Upper Dublin High School Partners with Fort Washington Estates in ‘Senior to Senior’ Program

Upper Dublin High School students team up with residents at Fort Washington Estates to craft keepsakes through the Senior to Senior program.

Students from Upper Dublin High School team up with residents at Fort Washington Estates to craft meaningful memories and lasting keepsakes through the Senior to Senior program, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

“Four years ago, teachers approached me about doing an intergenerational project with the seniors at Upper Dublin High School,” said Madeline Hlywiak, Director of Life Engagement at Fort Washington Estates. “They had an English class called The Art of the Story, where they would write someone’s story and ask them what makes a life well-lived.”

The program answers this by pairing students with seniors, giving them the chance to interview the seniors and hear their life experiences, challenges, and cherished memories. Afterwards, each student creates a personalized scrapbook presented  to them, filled with meaningful moments from their lives and insights and lessons the students gained from it.

“There are reflections and letters, and pictures, and memories, and things that they’ve learned,” said Hlywiak. “And what’s great to see is every student says something about the experience and what it meant to them.”

The team at Fort Washington Estate, hopes to keep the program going for many years.
