For those craving mouthwatering barbecue paired with locally brewed beer, La Cabra Brewing Smokehouse in Bryn Mawr has to be a must-visit destination, reports Bob Kelly for FOX 29 Philadelphia.
It all started with a brewery.
“So we have a brewery out in Berwyn,” said Alex MacDonald, Director of Operations at La Cabra Brewing Smokehouse. “We brew all our beer there. Nice artisanal brewery. We do a lot of gastro food there, some of the barbecue.”
The brewery celebrated its ninth anniversary this month.
“The smokehouse came in in 2019,” said MacDonald. “Right before COVID, so we had to struggle through that, but we survived and we actually did a really good job with centering in the neighborhood and being a place where people can kind of come to.”
All of the meat is smoked a day in advance and then allowed to rest overnight, producing brisket and pork that are tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Ribs and chicken are smoked on the day of service, resulting in meat that is incredibly tender and falls apart effortlessly.
“All the food is just incredible,” said MacDonald.

Brisket meets cheesesteak at La Cabra Brewing Smokehouse. Messy, flavorful, and served with housemade coleslaw and a spicy aioli, their brisket “chopped cheese” hits all the right notes. Great beer, good people, and a standout sandwich, well worth the stop in Bryn Mawr.
