Flourtown’s Guardian Nurses Leader Donates $25K to Boost Pennsylvania Nightingale Awards

Betty Long of Guardian Nurses donates $25K and pledges a match to expand Nightingale nursing scholarships across Pennsylvania.

Montgomery County’s healthcare community is celebrating a powerful investment in the future of nursing, thanks to Betty Long, Founder and CEO of Flourtown’s Guardian Nurses Healthcare Advocates

As she concludes her term as board president of the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania in Bala Cynwyd, Long has made a $25,000 personal donation to strengthen the organization’s longstanding nursing scholarship fund. She has also pledged to match additional donations up to another $25,000 through December 31, 2025, potentially doubling support for aspiring nurses across the Commonwealth.

Long said she wanted her final year as board president to leave “something meaningful that advances nursing education in Pennsylvania,” emphasizing the importance of preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals at a time when the state faces workforce shortages and increasing challenges within the field.

Her gift will expand the reach of the Nightingale scholarship program, which typically awards eight scholarships annually to students in State Board–approved nursing programs—from LPN and ADN tracks to BSN, master’s, and doctoral programs.

Long hopes her commitment inspires others to invest in the profession’s future, strengthening hospitals, clinics, long-term care communities, and community-based settings statewide.
