St. Joseph’s Field Hockey Advances To Face Top Seeded North Carolina In NCAA Tournament

After a victory over Drexel, the St. Joe’s field hockey team is moving on in the NCAA tournament and will take on No. 1 North Carolina this Friday, writes Colin Schofield for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Forward Carly Hynd, who scored two goals all season, managed to match that number in 30 minutes of play Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA field hockey tournament, securing her team a 2-0 victory in Chapel Hill, N.C.

“I saw a different group than I saw back in mid-October when we played Drexel,” said St. Joe’s coach Hannah Prince. ”I felt that we were a lot sharper with our ball movement. We were a lot more disciplined in our defense and sort of managing their key players. I also saw hungry girls in the circle. Obviously, Carly Hynd having two goals, but just really capitalizing on our opportunities.”

The Hawks are now set to face the Tar Heels in the next round, and are hoping to recreate last season’s semifinal magic, when they defeated them 2-1.
