Lower Merion’s board of commissioners is set to approve several new ordinances in December, including the first increase in parking meter rates in 26 years, writes Denali Sagner for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The new ordinances also cover reducing the speed limit on sections of Lancaster Avenue from 40 miles to 35 miles per hour and establishing rules for smoke and vape shops in the township.
The smoke and vape shop regulation was approved in October, while the parking meter and speed limit changes are expected to move forward this week. All three measures will face a formal vote by the commissioners in December, according to Lower Merion assistant township manager Brandon Ford.
Under the proposed parking ordinance, most meters across the township would see rates rise from 50 cents per hour to $1 per hour, while a handful of Ardmore locations would shift to higher pricing. Meters on Rittenhouse Place, Cricket Avenue, and Cricket Terrace, along with township lots five at Cricket Terrace and six at Schauffele Plaza, would increase to $1.50 per hour. The Cricket Avenue Parking Garage would remain at its current rate of 50 cents per hour.
