Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson is giving back through the Travis Manion Foundation, providing support for veterans and families of fallen service members, writes Lane Johnson for The Philadelphia Citizen.
The foundation was created by the family of 1st Lt Travis Manion, USMC, who was killed in combat on April 29, 2007, during his second deployment to Iraq. The Philadelphia-based organization carries strong regional ties, with Manion’s father, a Marine Corps colonel, having graduated from Lower Merion High School and his mother having attended nearby Conestoga High School.
The organization is led by Ryan Manion, the devoted sister of the fallen Marine, who has grown it into one of the largest veteran service organizations nationwide.
“We’re able to go out and showcase that our veterans and our military are perhaps the most important civic assets that our country has to offer,” she said. “Through TMF, once they take off the uniform, they’re able to go out and continue serving and showing up and showing what it means to live a life of service.”
Johnson has been volunteering at the organization’s events and meeting one-on-one with many Gold Star Families.
