As the federal government shutdown stretches on, thousands of local families across the Greater Philadelphia region are feeling the financial strain from delayed paychecks to mounting bills.
In response, Citadel Credit Union has rolled out a Government Shutdown Relief Program to help members weather this uncertain time. The program provides immediate financial flexibility for furloughed federal employees and those working without pay across Citadel’s six-county footprint: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Montgomery, and Philadelphia.
Available member relief options include:
- Loan payment relief: skip up to three consecutive monthly payments on auto loans, leases, personal loans, or lines of credit (no fee).
- Hardship loans: borrow up to four weeks’ net pay (max $6,000) at zero percent APR for 90 days with no payments for 120 days.
- Mortgage and home equity deferrals: postpone payments for up to 90 days on qualifying loans.
- Courtesy Pay refunds and credit protection to prevent negative credit reporting.
This initiative reflects Citadel’s member-first philosophy, putting people, not profits, at the center of decision-making. With more than 270,000 members and deep roots in southeastern Pennsylvania, Citadel continues to demonstrate its long-standing commitment to building financial strength across the communities it serves.
The program is available to Citadel members affected by the shutdown as of Sept. 30 and their household members. Applications can be made by phone, in-branch, or via online banking.
