Montco Drug Facility in the Spotlight with Upcoming RFK Report

McNeil Consumer Healthcare’s Fort Washington facility, a major Tylenol producer, is at the center of new national health concerns.

Montgomery County is once again at the center of a national health discussion, writes Maria Francis for Philly Burbs.

U.S Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy JR. is expected to release a report suggesting a link between over-the-counter Tylenol taken by pregnant women and autism.

This shines a spotlight on a Montco-based company. McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a major maker of Tylenol, has operations in Upper Dublin and Fort Washington

Tylenol is one of the most widely used pain relievers in the world. While no scientific consensus has established a connection to autism, the forthcoming report could reignite debate over its use during pregnancy.

The OTC drug was traditionally produced by Johnson & Johnson. Its consumer health division, which includes Tylenol, has since spun off to a new company, Kevenue. McNeill Consumer Healthcare is a subsidiary of Kevenue.

McNeil’s Fort Washington facility plays a key role in producing Tylenol sold worldwide. The implications of this forthcoming report could deal a blow to the Montco facilities.
