The Union League of Philadelphia is planning a major addition to its Liberty Hill golf course in Lafayette Hill, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The new Liberty Ballroom will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, two levels of event space, and room for up to 450 guests. Designed for weddings, galas, and corporate events, it will sit between the Lodge hotel and clubhouse. There will be a natural outdoor amphitheater for concerts and sweeping views of the course.
Construction is expected to begin in January 2026 and wrap the following year. Once complete, the existing Lafayette Ballroom will be converted into The Retreat, a wellness facility with a gym, fitness studio, pickleball courts, pool, and outdoor bar and grill. The Union League expects the project to generate an additional $1.5 million in annual revenue.
Liberty Hill spans 311 acres and includes 116 renovated Lodge guest rooms. The expansion follows other Union League investments, including acquisitions in Avalon, New Jersey. CEO Jeffrey McFadden emphasized ongoing reinvestment to preserve and enhance the club’s high-end destinations.
