UPS driver Stephen Bloomer received lifesaving support from a local business after experiencing a health crisis on the clock, writes Kelly Rule for Fox 29.
Bloomer suffered a cardiac arrest while delivering a package to If It’s Water Inc. in Downingtown on Aug. 12. Team members from the company found him collapsed on the ground outside the store.
Terry O’Neill, owner of the commercial pool product supplier, helped Bloomer along with his staff. O’Neill’s son Colin, a critical care nurse, coincidentally arrived at the same time and provided medical attention.
Colin secured an airway and provided six minutes of CPR to save Bloomer’s life. Emergency medicine services soon arrived to take over.
Bloomer had been delivering packages to If It’s Water for years. Team members from the company described him as a “part of the family,” making it all the more terrifying to see him in distress.
Bloomer was then airlifted to Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia to receive critical care. He currently receives care in the ICU with a feeding tube and tracheostomy.
Michelle, Bloomer’s sister, shared that Steve faces a long recovery journey, and will potentially have to relearn motor skills.
Fellow UPS team members also set up a GoFundMe to help Bloomer receive the lifesaving care he needs.
