The Sisters of St. Basil the Great in Montco welcomed sisters from Ukraine to help host their annual summer camp and pray for global peace.

The Sisters of St. Basil the Great in Montgomery County welcomed religious sisters from Ukraine to help host their annual summer camp and pray for global peace, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

The visit is part of a long-standing partnership the Montgomery County order maintains with sisters around the world.

“We came from Ukraine for a camp in the U.S.A.,” said Sister Esther Kozun, Sisters of St. Basil the Great. “We enjoy helping the kids. We enjoy being helpful for our sisters here in the monastery in Philadelphia.”

The Sisters of St. Basil the Great is an international order, locally based in Jenkintown. Three years ago, local sisters assembled and sent numerous care packages filled with essential items to people affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

“There are a lot of Ukrainians in this area,” said Sister Lydua Anna Sawka, Sisters of St. Basil the Great. “And every year we have a summer camp for the children. And a lot of our sisters are elderly so sisters from Ukraine come to help us.”
