Sheetz Breaks Ground in Limerick, Bringing Wawa Rivalry to Montco

Sheetz is breaking ground in Limerick, bringing its rivalry with Wawa to Montgomery County with a new store on Ridge Pike.

Sheetz, the Western PA convenience store and Wawa rival, is finally planting a flag in Montgomery County, writes Justin Heinze for the Patch.

Limerick Township officials recently approved the project, and construction is well underway at the corner of Ridge Pike and Swamp Pike. The location is just down the road from a super Wawa.

Ground broke in early August, and crews have already made visible progress. Semmel Excavating, one of the contractors, shared updates on social media. They noted how quickly the site is transforming into what they call a “go-to stop for fuel, food, and convenience.”

Of course, the store’s arrival isn’t without controversy. Traffic concerns and the high-profile faceoff fuel debates during a township hearing earlier this month. Furthering the rivalry, Sheetz is pursuing a liquor license to sell beer, something only a few local Wawa stores currently hold.

An exact opening date has yet to be set, but Sheetz has made clear this is only the beginning of the Philadelphia-area expansion. Another location in Downingtown is also on the way, with an expected debut in September of next year.
