Dave Samson, who was previously a counselor and held other roles at Germantown Academy, recently returned to the Fort Washington school as the head of Upper School, writes Abigail Chachoute for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Samson worked at the school from 2004 to 2015 on the administrative team implementing the House System in 2007, offering students bonding and leadership opportunities. He also developed a new Freshman Seminar Program and taught honors psychology and Upper School English.
After nine years in leadership roles in Utah and Massachusetts, he returned to Montgomery County, eager to apply what he had learned.
After starting his new role, he quickly observed several changes at his former school.
“It’s evolved in all the right ways in terms of how we can be inclusive as a school and how we can work with students and faculty,” said Samson.
Since his return, one notable change has been the removal of cell phones from certain spaces, including classrooms, and the results have been immediate.
“Even this past year, and students would say it, by not having their phones in the lunchroom, they’re connecting with kids much more,” he said.
