Wissahickon Brewing, Northwest Philadelphia’s largest brewery, has expanded into Montgomery County with a new location in Maple Glen, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The brewery announced its newest suburban satellite less than two months after launching its second location in Olde Kensington.
The Gill family, who own the brewery, filed paperwork with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board earlier this week for the new location, naming the former Brick & Barrel Taphouse as its site. The new outpost should be ready later this year following renovations to give the space a more brewpub atmosphere.
“Before it was Brick & Barrel, it was an Italian restaurant, and you can really see that with the terracotta roof on the front portico,” said Tim Gill Sr. “We’ll figure something out that’s going to make it look inviting and give it that Wissahickon feel.”
What will remain unchanged is the full kitchen, complete with its wood-fired pizza oven.
“We want to actually open it up a bit to let the customers see the action,” added Gill. “Just like we let them see us making beer [in East Falls], we let them see us making kombucha [in Olde Kensington], let’s put on a show for the pizza.”
