Hatboro residents are sharing their thoughts on the closure of Ross & Co. last week, citing reasons including the space being too large and lack of support from the borough, writes Dino Ciliberti for the Patch.
When it first opened, Ross & Co. expected to capitalize on the local housing boom and become a crown jewel of the business community. However, owner Bob Ross was unable to keep the business afloat and had to close last Monday and put it up for sale.
Many residents weighed in on the Hatboro-Horsham Patch Facebook page, lamenting the loss of another small business and speculating on the reasons for its failure.
“I think the problem is it’s a huge space and they were never packed, and even when there were a lot of people there was still a lot of empty tables,” wrote one commenter. “I’m thinking rent was too high to sustain that much space and turn a profit.”
Last November, Ross appeared before the Hatboro Borough Council asking for help, warning he would have to close if none was forthcoming.
“He literally asked for help before he made these decisions,” wrote another commenter.
