The new Discovery Channel show Filthy Fortunes helped Barbra Levan clear out the sprawling, cluttered property in Pottstown inherited from her father, uncovering valuables and cherished memories along the way, writes Terri Akman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Levan’s father was an old-school machinist and collector who amassed numerous tools and equipment from his machine shop, along with a sizable rifle and ammunition collection – plus plenty of other items that filled both the 10-acre farm and the home.
Filthy Fortunes is hosted by Matt Paxton, of Hoarders fame. His team spent five days in June 2024 rummaging through every container and corner of the farm and home. A 20,000-pound excavator was required to move a semitrailer from the woods, among other bigger items.
“There’s always a risk,” said Paxton. “If we don’t find enough money to cover the cleanup costs, we’re out of pocket.”
One of the most important finds for Levan was her grandfather’s military suitcase in the attic. It was filled with war medals, his uniform, and her picture as a little girl.
The property will be featured on the March 16 episode of Filthy Fortunes on Discovery Channel.
