As the NHL Draft played out on TV, 19-year-old Ajay White’s phone rang with an invite to the Philadelphia Flyers’ development camp, writes Jackie Spiegel for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
For the Bryn Mawr native and lifelong Flyers fan, it was the call of a lifetime.
White is a former Junior Flyer and St. Joe’s Prep standout, but wasn’t picked in this year’s draft. Still, he stood tall at Flyers camp, literally and figuratively.
The 6’3” goaltender held his own against top prospects, helping his team to the final in a three-on-three tournament and anchoring a dramatic comeback win.
White had a strong showing in the USHL and NAHL. He was recently traded to the Fargo Force for the upcoming season before heading to Division 1 St. Thomas in 2026.
For now, he’s soaking up the experience with family cheering from the stands and his childhood heroes just a locker room away.
